It’s always the case on nights I set aside for some TV-zoning-out, that I finally get my child to bed with just enough time to watch a movie or a couple episodes of a new show… But there are too many options. I end up scrolling through Netflix or Amazon for too long and lose the time, and instead of something new I usually end up catching up on John Oliver (a fine substitute) and then drift off to sleep. I’ve had better luck the last few months though, so I’ve put together a watch list for you in those dire times you must, must veg-out in between a long, hard work day and turning in for the night. Any of these will do the trick, promise!
If you liked E.T., Stand By Me, The Goonies, and Alien…
Then watch Stranger Things, a supernatural mystery series set in the 80s in small town Indiana that follows an eerie missing person’s case. (Netflix, 8 episodes)
If you liked The English Patient and Casino Royale…
Watch this mini series, political thriller slash crime drama The Night Manager, set in Cairo during the Egyptian Revolution. (Amazon)
If you liked Bridget Jones’ Diary, Mad About You, and Knocked Up…
Then watch Catastrophe for more comedic reality-checks on the repercussions of a one night (or week) stand. (Amazon, 2 seasons of 6 episodes)
If you liked Inglorious Bastards and Mad Men…
Try The Man in the High Castle to satisfy your interest in post-war thrillers and period pieces. (Amazon)
If you liked Scarface and Breaking Bad…

If you liked How I Met Your Mother or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt…
Then watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to fuel your love of guilty pleasure TV that you really shouldn’t be too embarrassed about falling for. (Netflix)
