I was given the book Poems That Make Grown Women Cry on my birthday and it’s truly a stunning collection of poetry curated by 100 women we deeply respect and put together by father-son team Anthony & Ben Holden in collaboration with Amnesty International. If you’ve ever wondered what moves some of the brightest minds and spirits of our time to tears, here’s your answer. It’s also a great place to start if you are drawn to poetry but don’t quite know where to begin. Every poem includes a short bio on the woman who chose it and what the poem means to her, and the author of the poem and what its significance was. Included in the women chosen to share their favorite emotion-inducing poem are Joan Baez, Yoko Ono, Michelle Williams, Olivia Coleman, Emily Mortimer, Elena Ferrante, Judi Dench, Annie Lennox, Julie Christie, Mala Tribich, Emmeline Pankhurst, Sunny Jacobs, Vanessa Redgrave… The list is wonderful. I recommend picking this up today for a little bedside reading. xx Joy
