I’ve spent the better part of the last two months traveling for my tour and other exciting projects, and I’ve gotten really, really good at getting creative within one VERY strict constraint: the carry on. So over the past weeks I’ve been collecting ideas for a massive “how to pack for 7 days in a carry on” travel guide that’s finally live today (BELOW). For this post though, I wanted to give you some real life examples to prove that those fashion collages weren’t all talk. So I teamed up with my friend Stephanie Liu of Honey & Silk to guide you through the daunting task of packing for travel. I styled her in three travel-approved looks and she styled me, which you can see on her blog.
Tried and tested my friends – you CAN live out of a carry on and look good doing it.
No matter where you go, you probably plan on having at least one of your best pairs of denim with you – no surprise there. For this first look, I knew a sleek black top would look effortless with her sandals and travel tote. In keeping with the theme of packing light, this is a top you can take from day tonight.

When you anchor your outfits with a good pair of jeans, you have one less thing to switch up during a 7 day trip. Swapping the sandals and jewelry means the denim and bag can stay.
And these blouses. Whether you go with chambray or another light fabric/color, you can’t go wrong. Pair it with a skirt the next time around… This particular skirt is a vintage find I’ve been wearing a lot on my music tour.
We all need at least 1 good silk cami. I like Black because it goes with almost everything, on Stephanie’s page you’ll see her choice is a beautiful Emerald.
Isn’t she the cutest?
For this last look, I wanted to reinvent the tie front top and give it a complete makeover with the floral maxi. Recognize the necklace?
