For today’s edition of Church On The Blog, I’m sharing a few relaxation apps that you should always have (literally) in your back pocket. It’s spring, days are longer, times are busier, and just when it seems like you can’t fit anything else into your schedule, you’ll find that a few minute de-stress sesh is exactly what you need.
Headspace Meditation App
Headspace has become ubiquitous with modern meditation over the last couple years, and the fact that research has been backing up mindfulness for a bit now makes these calming guided meditation exercises so intriguing. With Headspace, you can incorporate meditation techniques into your routine in just ten minutes a day, working up to a more mindful, present lifestyle. Another commitment doesn’t always sound the most reasonable, but if you deal with a lot of stress in your day (and, who doesn’t?), you’ll find that the 10 minute sessions are well worth the interruption. In fact, this is exactly the time you need it (as much as powering through lunch and those required yet somehow frowned upon 15-minute work breaks). So peel yourself from the desk, plug in some headphones, and quiet that mind.
Take a Break – Guided Meditations for Stress Relief
Take a Break is another app that offers meditative techniques for the modern, totally plugged in lifestyle. These guided meditations offer up options for a quick 7 minute work break or a slightly longer, deep stress relief meditation of 13 minutes. One of the cooler things about this app is that you can opt out of these guided meditations, and go straight to relaxing music and natural sounds if better suited for your situation. Think of this as a super quick way to relax when you need to turn your brain away from anxiety inducing experiences, like flying, in the waiting room at a nerve-wracking appointment, or getting to sleep after an emotionally charged day.
Color Therapy – Free Stress Relieving Coloring Books
Adult coloring books are having their moment right now. After a few articles popped up on the subject of adult’s coloring (France apparently leading the trend) showing how art can work wonders for your stress levels—something those of us creative types knew all along, but anyway—the societal age restriction on coloring books has been lifted. Now you can color along with your kiddos or, let’s face it, your glass of wine at the end of the night with Color Therapy. But what about when you need a quick break from the day to unwind and you’re on the go? When your bag is too stuffed to carry around your 96 Crayola collection? Don’t panic, you can now create intricate floral patterns, mandalas, and 400+ more stunning illustrations with this app.
